A specific type of foam insulation material that is designed to expand and fill gaps, cracks, and voids in construction applications while also providing fire resistance, fire rated expanding foam is typically used in areas where fire safety is a concern, such as around electrical penetrations, pipes, ducts, and other openings in walls, floors, and ceilings. Fire rated expanding foam is especially easy to apply as it comes in standard expanding foam spray tins, extruded by either attachable nozzles or specialist foam guns. Made from polyurethane means that, once fully cured (usually within 30-60 minutes) fire rated expanding foam can be manipulated by cutting, trimming, sanding and planing down. Expanding foams can also be covered over with various materials and/or overpainted.
