Old and/or poorly applied mastic sealant is not only unsightly but is also almost certainly ineffective at keeping a watertight, airtight seal for which it was intended. Before re-applying a sealant, mastic sealant removal tools are often used to mechanically dig, scrape, cut or pick out the old cured sealant.
