Whilst used successfully for many years without competition, it's important to understand that in recent times (over the past decade), whilst polysulfide sealants have some advantages, they also have some limitations in this day and age, such as a very noticeable, pungent odour during application and a not-so-good performance with prolonged exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, especially when used exterbnally in direct sunlight. If there is a conversation to be had when polysuphide mastic sealants have been either; specified or recommended for use on a job or project, then newer, equivalent, better performing sealant technology now exists and should be definitely be considered. As usual, the selection of sealant always depends on the specifics of each and every different sealing application.
