Manufactured, tested and in some circumstances certified for use in areas where extended water immersion and/or exposure to chlorine and other cleansing chemicals, specialist spa mastic sealants are a type of sealant for sanitised areas where high volume of private and/or public use is expected. Used internally and externally in both residential and commercial settings such as public baths, home or public swimming pools, hot tub surrounds, spas and leisure centre changing rooms etc., spa mastic sealants usually contain acid curing systems as well as additives such as fungicide, biocides and other chemicals to combat mould growth and other common bacteria whilst having a high degree of resistance to all types of cleaning materials. Exact types of spa mastic sealant products (e.g. certain brands and certfications etc.) are normally selected and specified by architects and project managers to compliment other materials and/or systems used in the design and build of a fitting, fixture, structure or connecting joints between similar or differing substrates such as tiles, glazing and timber etc.
